Rhythm Body, a 5Rhythms® Movement Class Movement is medicine. Explore putting your fluid, passionate, wild, and sacred self into motion.
In Rhythm Body we dive into the fundamentals of the 5Rhythms® practice. We dance together and alone, enjoy a balance of structured learning and exploratory freedom as we practice putting our authentic selves into motion.
The 5Rhthyms® is a profound and multi-layered practice which has been mapped out by Gabrielle Roth over the last four decades. To learn more about it see: www.gabrielleroth.com.
The 5Rhythms: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, together form a Wave. In dancing this Wave, we practice embodying each rhythm as it naturally moves and cycles through us. By following the arc of energy these combined rhythms create—and by focusing our awareness on the truth of our bodies, hearts, and minds in motion—we are taken on a journey into, out of, through, and beyond ourselves; back to the vibrant center of our essential being.

Flowing • Staccato • Chaos • Lyrical • Stillness.
Every Rhythm carries its own medicine; together they from a Wave of healing. In this series, we will explore the “prescription” that each rhythm offers us. We will practice how to take in—with our bodies and with our motion, the energy and alchemy of the Rhythms—one Rhythm at a time. This series will also be an opportunity to work with the same group of people over a length of time—to dedicate ourselves and to expand into the dance together.
About the 5Rhythms®: The 5Rhythms is a moving meditation that uses dance as a catalytic pathway to the integration of body and soul. It is a conscious, creative, and physical exploration of how a pattern of five Rhythms (Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness) naturally move through our bodies and our lives. There are no steps to follow; there is no choreography to learn, no way of doing it wrong. Anyone can practice it. By following the body, surrendering to the beat, and opening to the creative force moving within us, we discover the dance of our most authentic, passionate, and sacred selves. To learn more about it see: www.gabrielleroth.com.

Rumsua: A Gong Workshop with Visudha de los Santos“I just want you to remember the amazing and incredible being you are. You are a gift of love and light to this universe, and you are so loved. The universe is blessed with your presence, your essence. Thank you for being here sharing your magnificence.” —Visudha de los Santos
Rumsua is a Filipino word that means to manifest, to reveal itself, or to come into being. Using Planetary Gongs, Visudha creates transformational healing waves of sound in a way that will soothe, inspire, heal and awaken your spirit. The rising and falling rhythms, sounds and vibrations of planetary gongs will transport you to the Alpha & Theta realms creating deep harmony within, alignment with your true self, and an extraordinary healing experience. In this way, we move and open to our natural Rumsua. Participants are asked to bring comfortable items to lie upon and journals. Wear relaxing clothing that will freely move.Experience a deep harmony within and an extraordinary healing experience.
Each gong is tuned to the harmonics of the orbital properties of planets and other celestial bodies offering a gateway back to our natural state of connectedness with the physical, emotional and spiritual worlds. Visudha works intuitively with the Planetary Gongs Sedna, Venus, and the New Moon. When the Gongs are played, we are physically connected to the power of that planet’s resonance and attributes, inducing natural alignment and harmony ultimately providing healing at the cellular level.

Roots: A 5Rhythms Waves DANCE Shop with Visudha de los Santos“It takes discipline to become a free spirit” —Gabrielle Roth
The world around us, and the world within us keeps shaking us up. In these turbulent and chaotic times we need something to support us; something to hold us; something to lean upon. How can we stay fluid and in motion with the changes that keep showing up? How can we ground uncertainty and stay open to unexpected moments.
We will explore this chaos through the Roots of the 5Rhythms movement meditation practice. Drawing upon sacred traditions, they are powerful yet simple ways to transform energy. Moving with the energies of curiosity, fun & great music, we will listen to and move our bodies towards the freedom of our essential selves.
Cultivating deep roots, the 5Rhythms offer us access to the infinite source of wisdom within, and thus strengthening our own sense of freedom.
Visudha de los Santos, facilitator, musician, artist and ceremonial leader has studied with Gabrielle Roth and Shamanic Studies for 12 years. Known for her presence in many realms, clear insight, and gentle & inspiring spirit, she says that "The 5Rhythms® have transformed me again and agin. What Lies Beneath: A Residential 5 Rhythms Workshop with “I look forward to sharing this deep journey into the known and unknown with you.” —Eugene Hedlund
On my personal path as a 5Rhythms® dancer, the most profound and transformative dance has been when I have been invited to use this moving meditation map as a tool to discover where I am showing up, where I am shutting down, what layers of armor I may have on, what walls a vulnerable heart may be taking refuge behind and ultimately what lies beneath the mask(s) I wear from time to time.
I want to invite you to such an investigation. Join us for three days and two nights at the Sierra Hot Springs Resort and Retreat Center, where, together with a tribe of fellow dancing seekers, we will show up in full heart, full compassion and full witness making space and giving permission for each other to reveal their true, vulnerable and vital self.
This is a limited space workshop. The tuition includes full use of the Sierra Hot Springs facility, indoor or outdoor camping space, as well as one catered meal, snacks and all course materials. Visit the Sierra Hot Springs website for more information on this beautiful location which will hold our sacred work.

We can all feel it can’t we? There’s something going on. We need to change, radically, and it’s happening. There’s a shift in consciousness taking place that is profound, far reaching, beyond any one of us, and involving all of us….
This event is based on Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms™, a movement meditation that gets you out of your head and into your body, heart and deep mind; a spiritual practice that’s rooted in dance. Whether you’re into hip-hop, Beethoven, Buddha or Wii, the rhythms are a map to your own self and the way your energy naturally moves and expresses itself.

“It takes discipline to become a free spirit” —Gabrielle Roth
The 5Rhythms Movement Meditation practice offers us a way to find FREEDOM and peace within. Drawing upon sacred traditions, the rhythms are a powerful and deceptively simple way to transform our self. Breath, Movement, the “Wave,” and the 5Rhythms of flow, staccato, chaos, lyrical, & stillness are the roots of this practice. By deepening these roots we will cultivate greater awareness. By listening to, and moving our bodies, we expand our body vocabulary, and come into the fullest manifestation of our essential self.
Cultivating deep roots, the 5Rhythms offer us access to the infinite source of wisdom within, and thus strengthening our own sense of freedom. Click image above for a larger view. You may also download a PDF file about this workshop by clicking here.

“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you
if you do not act upon them?” —Buddha
Amani Friend, Dwight Loop, Madi Sato, Michael Kott and Dream Jungle have all agreed to perform at this event at greatly reduced fees and the organizer of the event, Ace Of Wands, is donating all net proceeds to both The Esperanza Shelter For Battered Families and Embodydance Santa Fe.
Ace of Wands, a member of the Embodydance community, has taken this opportunity, the year of the 10th Anniversary of Santa Fe’s premier Ecstatic Dance Community, to use a feature of Embodydance’s new governing structure, an Agenda Proposal, to create this dance event designed to freely give back to Santa Fe’s community by gifting another non-profit organization that performs heart-based work for the community of Santa Fe.
This is an exciting opportunity to experience Amani Friend, multi-talented performer and producer (Desert Dwellers | Yogitunes | Liquid Bloom) perform a two-hour live ecstatic dance wave utilizing all new material.
A World-Electronic music producer and pioneer, Amani Friend has released countless Albums, EPs, and Remixes since 1995. As a co-founder of Desert Dwellers and the music labels Desert Trax and Yogitunes, Amani is deeply attuned to the positive impact that intentional music can have on listeners. A driving force in the Shaman’s Dream collective, his musical scores for over 30 Yoga and health-related DVDs include such yogis as Shiva Rea and others; he’s produced remixes for Deva Premal, Jai Uttal, Donna DeLory, Karsh Kale, and Deep Forest.
Equally exciting is the premier performance together of Dwight Loop, Madi Sato, and Michael Kott playing new material they have been honing in the studio for several months.
Dwight Loop has been passionately involved with new music from two distinct perspectives—as a longtime radio host and producer of "Earwaves," an acclaimed new music radio program—to a composer of experimental and ambient electronic music for nearly three decades.
Loop was founder and president of New Music New Mexico, Inc., a non-profit new music presenting organization from 1981–1986 and creator of the NEA-funded Concentration Music Series. Loop also received grants from the NEA and New Mexico Arts Commission for many "new music" public radio series. His current music projects include Dream Jungle, collaborations with cellist Michael Kott (Santa Fe) and long-time musical partners Justin Parker and Arnold Bodmer (Rampant Egos), as well as the presentation of multi-media electronic music performances of Kuxan Suum and Hunab Ku which is based on Mayan cosmology at venues and conferences throughout America.•
Japanese-American Madi Sato is an award-winning singer and songwriter, poet, actor, sound healer and teacher. Named one of New Mexico’s Top 5 Exceptional Performers by the Santa Fean Magazine in 2003, she is the recipient of the 2004 New Mexico Mic Award for “Best R&B Song of the Year” with her original composition, Lady Pearl. Madi Sato performs an all-original blend of World Music, R&B, Soul, and Japanese influenced poetry and songs. She interweaves sacred music from Japan, Tibet, India, and the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with Native American and Japanese rhythms into her own original compositions that draw upon her foundation in the blues, R & B, and jazz.
•
Michael Kott has been called a “transgalactic electro-cellist” and is an accomplished musician who has been playing the cello since the age of nine. Cellist extraordinaire, Kott has received wide critical acclaim and awards for his original compositions and recordings and has appeared on grammy-nominated recordings by Robert Mirabal and Inlakesh.
Dwight Loop will also round out this spectacular evening performing as Dream Jungle. Steve Roach says of Dream Jungle “Chilled body beats and fourth-world undercurrents... Dream Jungle oozes with the transluscent atmosphere of a dusty crimson sunset..coming on in well-proportioned waves as the tribes of modern man spin and twirl into a coil of perfect trance."

“Energy moves in Waves. Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. Human beings are just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythm. Nothing more, nothing less. A dance.” —Gabrielle Roth
Waves come and go. Nature contracts and expands, just as humans do in daily life. Have you ever experienced being frozen and unable to move forward? Or perhaps being in fearful or frantic states? Using the 5Rhythms movement meditation practice, we will investigate how each of the 5Rhythms—flow, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness—can help us meet life. We will unlock stories held inour bodies thus deepening our awareness about how we respond to what life gives us. We will invite change in our patterns to experience more freedom and fulfillment with the life we create. Presented by Visudha de los Santos
Visudha de los Santos is an ordained minister, artist and healer who facilitates personal growth through classes and workshops. She is devoted to the bigger love and the bigger dance for herself and all who enter her life. Weaving her 20 years of professional background in community development and expressive arts with her knowledge and experience of ritual, movement medicine and energy healing modalities (Yoga, Kripalu DansKinetics®, Authentic Movement, Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms™, Reiki), Vishuda encourage the transformation of individuals and communities. As an artist she sculpts stone and has created art installations around the United States for 5Rhythms™ workshops.

“In this workshop, we use the rhythms to study the fundamentals of relationship—how to be with yourself, someone else, and a group. Can you be at peace with your own company, or are you on edge, needing someone else’s attention? When you are with someone else, do you usually lead, follow, or jam it? Do you act nice or stay in control at all costs? Do you trust yourself enough to open up and be vulnerable with others? When you are with a group of people do you hide out or barge in?
The 5Rhythms® are in the end a pathway to love from love with love. The body tells the truth so we get to see what we’re up to…”

“Dear Friends,
Esalen is the edge of two powerful worlds, the place where the mountains meet the ocean, and its spirit is driven by 2000 years of Native American history. It is the most beautiful place in the entire world to me.
I relish the opportunity to teach The Embodied Heart at Esalen because this location is a big piece of my heart. My dad planted the first Esalen garden (and we will be eating food grown right there) and Gabrielle developed the 5Rhythms on this land (and we will be dancing her dream right there). It is a tremendous honor to be working in the same room where she gave birth to this amazing practice.
I invite you to join me,
With love,

“The Way is not in the sky, The Way is in the heart.” —Buddha
“The heart is a lonely hunter.” This is not only the title to a great book, but a haunting description of a state of being. What are we hunting for? What do we want that we don’t have? We want connection and intimacy. More than anything else in this world, we want to be loved.
Often, we don’t listen to our own hearts. In fact, most often we think about our feelings rather than experience them, and this separation creates loneliness that turns the heart into a hunter—seeking somebody to love rather than being the force that is love. Love isn’t something to do; it’s something to be.
Let’s take the time to stop the world and pay attention to our hearts. Attention is like a spotlight. Feelings live in our body parts, and when we shine the light of our attention on them, memories crack open and move, dissolving the hard hold they have on us.
Using the 5Rhythms® as a map to how our emotional energy morphs and moves, we will practice the lost art of falling in love and landing on our own two feet.
Visit us at www.GabrielleRoth.com
Join us on Facebook at 5Rhythms New York City.

In this workshop we utilize the foundation of the 5Rhythms® as a movement meditation. As a tribe of individuals we will investigate how we stand in our center, the eye of our own storm, and practice discovering how we can remain true to that center while
remaining connected to the greater whole.
We will examine the stories we carry with us, which ones inhibit our flow and which promote it. We will seek our own answers to the questions: Who Am I? & What do I need? Relying on our physical intelligence, we will breathe movement into our answers, our stories, allowing words to still. Through the energy of flow we seek to discover which stories are truly our own, and which like old skins are ready to shed, making room for new possibilities.
No previous experience of the 5 Rhythms® or dance is necessary. All that is required is an open heart, curiosity, a sense of humor and much compassion, particularly for ourselves.
Workshop cost is $195 or $175 if booked by May 7.
$50 non-refundable deposit holds your space.
